sketch for hyper-dimensional architectural intervention at abasto shopping mall / buenos aires.
The sketch is a montage of the original photo – a snapshot – , plus two additional copies set at a lower opacity and distorted into shape to create the effect of a chaotic cascading shape to the architectural canopy and shopping mall infrastructure. The duplication also suggests that there are 4 or 5 stories – each with mezzanines – whereas the original only has two stories visible. The circular handrail in the foregound has also been copied, enlarged and duplicated and set at a lower oppocity to give the effect of a kind of futuristic energy or holographic installation.
I put “Gibson” in the title to suggest the effect of cyber-enhanced vision, which seems to be present in most of his books; some kind of future where we see shifting, translucent or transparent overlays of data or other structures superimposed over the world we see with our own eyes. It’s very easy to imagine this type of technology experience to be deployed in shopping mall, since the virtual and seductive are pursued to the utmost.
